Playing catch up

The last two weeks have been really fun and busy! The first week, my super awesome friend Jenni (and her super awesome boyfriend, Sean) came to visit us and we had a blast. I was soooo sad when they had to leave. The first night they were here we "dressed up" and went to Merritts Country Cafe.

We made Jen and Sean put on some of McKay's hunting camo

Here we are just gettin' our hick on
I think McKay was most appropriately dressed for Merritts
 Awkward?
We realized we were both wearing owl shirts!
 I love this couple!!!!

Last weekend just so happened to be my 21st birthday (March 18th)!!! McKay took work off and planned out the perfect day for me.... My day started with a delicious DK doughnut followed by a bike ride to Camel's back park....

a lovely game of tennis (that I won)....

a yummy packed lunch....

a trip to Walmart to buy a pet fish...

a delicious PF Changs dinner....

and a really cute, funny movie called Rango!

Okay I tried to put more pictures up but it's not working right now. I will try again tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Little Brother!

Actually, before I talk about Kade's birthday I need to tell about the little adventure McKay and I had today. I wish it could sound as funny as it really was and I wish I had taken pictures, but you'll just have to try hard to imagine it.

Yesterday McKay's cousin Jake asked if he would ordain him a deacon at 11:30 on Sunday (today) and of course Mick was very happy to do so. Unfortunately our church starts at 10 so we knew we would have to slip right out the door after sacrament meeting. In the hustle and bustle of getting out the door to go to church Mick couldn't find his keys so he took mine (totally fine cause I was with him so I didn't need them). So we finish up sacrament meeting and quickly sneak out the side door as to not get caught up in conversation with anyone since we were in a rush. Well to our dismay.... we locked the keys in the car. In McKay's defense, he is a man of repetition and habit therefore, taking and using my set of keys threw him off his groove. This had never happened to us before and of course on the one day we were in a big hurry, it happened. SO we tried to call a few family members but everyone was at church. Fail. We then proceeded to march our embarrassed little selves right back into the church building to ask for a ride to our house. Dear Brother Chris so willingly drove us back home (thanks chris!) which then Mick realized he left his nice Argentine leather-covered scriptures on top of the car in the church parking lot, and yes, it did end up raining. Once we made it home we realized that the key to get into our house was locked in the car and the other one was locked in the house. Ah! So at this point we had called to let Jake know that we were going to be a little late, but time was just really workin' against us and wanted us to be a LOT late. Luckily we have AAAmazing neighbors who let us take their jeep (thanks Em 'n Lance). We would've calmed down a little bit at this point since we were on our way and did all we could do, but hey apparently today was National Hit-every-red-light-and-drive-5mph-under-the-speed-limit Day. Really, people?! It's okay if you don't want to go 5 over but please at LEAST go the actual speed limit. Please. Okay sorry I usually don't get road rage but it truly was frustrating. So we finally got there and the ordination was a success:) We're proud of you Jake! Sorry we were half-an-hour late!
And now for part two of our eventful day... We were calm and happy after we got to see Grandma IvaLou, Aunt Steph, Uncle Joe, and of course Jacob. And then we got home and realized the crazy had just begun. No key to the house... wuddaya do? Normally Lance and Emily have a spare but since they put the house up for sale the spare key went into the realtor's key box so we were out of luck there. We remembered that Lance had had a really easy time shimmying our bedroom window open when it was summer and hot inside but the plan to go through that way was flawed. McKay and I, being the paranoid people that we are, latched that window shut. Awesome. So now what do we do? We start cutting away at the kitchen window that had been painted shut for quite some time. 20 minutes, 3 people, two screwdrivers, one fence post, and a couple of knives later we wedged the dang thing open just wide enough to squeeze little Emily awkwardly through to unlock our door. Success!!! (Sorry about that by the way, Emily. Is everything still attached to your body and working??) Alright, and then we ate Lance's delicious apple juice pancakes. Well McKay did, and I just trusted him when he said they were delicious.
So all's well that ends well, right? Right. It was a crazy experience, but some parts were VERY hilarious (i.e. when we stuck Em through the window and couldn't stop laughing) and it made for some great memories. Oh p.s. we went back to get the car and Mick's scriptures were still there and they weren't ruined, hallelujah. The world wasn't working against us after all. :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KADE!!!!!
This is the real reason for today's post. Today was Kade Samuel Egbert's 7th birthday! Congrats buddy! You're one year older and wiser too:) McKay and I love you THIIIIIIISSSSS much!

We had a fun time with my family tonight eating birthday cake and playing Catch Phrase and Fact or Crap. I asked my mom if I could make Kade's cake and I can't really say it was a success, but I can say that it was very fun to make and even more fun to eat. Here are a couple of pictures of my concoction.

I was so excited I finally got to use the cake plate that we got for our wedding. Thank you Alders!

 Blowing out the candle!
The lovely plates we used... he didn't really care that they were pink and had a princess on them as long as he got some cake!

Playing some games with the fam.... oh and a picture of cute little Brooke who is getting very big.

The end.

Shout out to current job-seekers

I'm about to go to work, but wanted to give a quick shout out to all of you people who are working hard to find employment right now. Props to you! I just had a job interview today and it is no easy task. Looking for a job is THE HARDEST job. Nevertheless... don't give up. I have confidence that if you want it badly enough, you will find it. Well I'd better take my own advice and be on my way:) P.s. This is the outfit I wore today to interview for a bank teller position. Shake'n'bake baby... shake and bake. (not sure what that means but it seemed like the right thing to say).

The beginning of forever

I intended to start this blog when we got engaged and then things got a little crazy.  So for this post you might wanna hold tight to your seats while I give you a quick rundown of our life together thus far.

And now... the story of McKay and Shea!!! (picture book style)

McKay and I met in high school in our choir class. This is a picture of our choir trip to DISNEYLAND (also where Mick kissed me for the first time). That's our good friend Whitney, who was fortunate to witness our entire courtship. I was barely 16 and he was 17, almost 18. Oh the magic:)

After a year or so of breakups and "reuniting"s, McKay got his mission call to Bahia Blanca, Argentina!!! Don't let this picture fool you... he and I had a strictly platonic relationship at this point. What a happy day!

So while McKay served his mission....

 I graduated high school...

I was a music camp counselor...

I went to college...

I got a little older...

And I traveled and made new friends...

All the while we wrote each other and told of our adventures, hardships, and times of growth and happiness.

When he came home, September 23rd of 2009, we hit it off like we had never been apart.

We dated for about 5 months after he got home...

February 6, 2010 he finally proposed!!!

We were engaged for 4 looooong months!!

June 12, 2010 we were married in the Boise temple and sealed for eternity by my granddad, Roy E. Christensen. It was a beautiful day:)

We then flew to So Cal for our honeymoon.

Our sweet ride for the week (compliments of my grandparents)...

We went to Seaworld...

California Adventure and Disneyland...

Wild Animal Kingdom...

Universal Studios...

And of course we got Slurpees and went to the beach!

We had a blast and were very sad when it all ended... but then we went on a family trip to....

ALASKA!!!! I guess you could say we had a second honeymoon and it was just as fun (if not, more fun) than the first!

Well now we've settled down and life is full of work and school and love and stress. The past 8 1/2 months have been incredible! I wouldn't trade it for anything. We are excited to see where life takes us in the next few years. I can't imagine how many things will change in 3 years... so many things have already happened in the first 8 months!

Okay you got the lowdown, so now for today's actual post.

I don't know what it is about marriage, but I think it really does make you gain weight... or maybe it's just us?? Regardless, we've both gone downhill a little bit and are trying to find SOMETHING that will motivate us to get active!

McKay has found his motivation and he is very excited about it. He spent this week fixing up his bike so he can ride 4 miles to school in the morning and 4 miles back home before he has to go to work.

This morning was the first day riding and boy was it tough. When he got home he said his legs felt like jello, but that it felt so good! I'm glad he has found his motivation:) Now I need to find mine... pronto!
